Update on the MIASA School Edition
The initial release of the MIASA School Edition will now be in the Fall of 2025. This delay will allow for the creation of T-scores and new co-norms for youth and parents. Additionally, new features will be added, including a progress monitoring module and training videos. Those who have expressed interest in field testing will still receive free accounts upon the full version release.

Young Adult Follow-Up Study
In 2024, young adult retrospective reports were used to create a normative sample for the MIASA youth questionnaire. This provided the opportunity to conduct a pseudo-longitudinal study by having the respondents complete a questionnaire about their current lives, in their early 20’s. Subjects were solicited 6 – 9 months after completing the MIASA retrospectively and 240 subjects between the ages 20 and 26 responded.
Key Findings
- The Negative Affect scales, particularly ED (Emotional Distress), showed strong correlations with mental health treatment and medication use in both teen and adult years. ED correlated .49 with outpatient treatment as a teen and .40 as an adult.
- There were many significant correlations with use of psychotropic medications as both a teen and adult the highest being .65 with anti-psychotic use as teens.
- The AS (Autism Spectrum) scale showed correlations similar to ED, suggesting it's more related to emotional distress than autism.
- For Resiliency scales, SE (Self-Esteem) and FS (Family Support) showed opposite patterns to ED. FS had a stronger negative correlation with suicidal ideation than SE, suggesting parental closeness protects against suicidal thoughts. SS (Social Support) showed minimal correlations.
- SMA (Social Media Addiction) and GA (Gaming Addiction) showed no significant correlations with early adult life problems.
- WI (Weight Issues) strongly correlated with eating disorders (.57 as teen, .58 as adult) and adult weight concerns (.62).
- Few subjects had criminal justice involvement, limiting Acting Out scales assessment. SA (Substance Abuse) mildly correlated with adult drug use (.40). The strongest correlations with adult drug use were PS (Posttraumatic Stress, .47), SA (.40), LIS (Low Intimacy Sex, .36), and Di (Disobedience, .32).
- ED was the best predictor of overall life stress, correlating .51 with the Life Experience Questionnaire (LEQ) score. No MIASA scores had strong correlations with adult life satisfaction or stability.
